چکیده

ABSTRACT To elucidate the dynamics of terrestrial leaf waxes in a high-altitude lake system, we performed compound-specific radiocarbon analysis (CSRA) long-chain n -alkanes two sediment core sections from Lake Karakul (Pamirs, Tajikistan) and surface soil samples catchment area. We aimed to answer question whether are delivered into with substantial delay due storage soils, which may cause potential bias when used as paleoenvironmental proxies. In CSRA results reveal an age range modern 2278 ± 155 cal BP. samples, three four -alkane ages fell on lower ends 1?-uncertainty ranges modeled sediments (based AMS 14 C-TOC OSL dating results). conclude that sedimentary represent compounds intermediate turnover time for example originating alluvial plains close shores. Overall, provide evidence wax this cold arid setting potentially older than conventional model indicates, but these findings need be interpreted context generally large uncertainty such models.

Variations in radiocarbon ages of various organic fractions in core sediments from Erhai Lake, SW China

Radiocarbon dating was performed for the extracted organic fractions (cellulose-rich and humic acid fractions of plant fragment; fulvic acid, humic acid and humin fractions of humus substance) and shell from core sediments of the Erhai Lake, SW China. The 14C dating results reveal that there are considerable differences, but there apparently is a humic acid ≤ humin < fulvic acid fraction sequen...

High-sensitivity measurement of diverse vascular plant-derived biomarkers in high-altitude ice cores

[1] Semi-volatile organic compounds derived from burned and fresh vascular plant sources and preserved in highaltitude ice fields were detected and identified through use of recently developed analytical tools. Specifically, stir bar sorptive extraction and thermal desorption coupled with gas chromatography/time-of-flight mass spectrometry allowed measurement of multiple biomarkers in small sam...

Concordance of collagen-based radiocarbon and aspartic-acid racemization ages.

By determining the extent of racemization of aspartic acid in a well-dated bone, it is possible to calculate the in situ first-order rate constant for the interconversion of the L and D enantiomers of aspartic acid. Collagen-based radiocarbon-dated bones are shown to be suitable samples for use in "calibrating" the racemization reaction. Once the aspartic-acid racemization reaction has been "ca...

Pre-aged plant waxes in tropical lake sediments and their influence on the chronology of molecular paleoclimate proxy records

Sedimentary records of plant-wax hydrogen (dDwax) and carbon (d Cwax) stable isotopes are increasingly applied to infer past climate change. Compound-specific radiocarbon analyses, however, indicate that long time lags can occur between the synthesis of plant waxes and their subsequent deposition in marginal marine sediments. The influence of these time lags on interpretations of plant-wax stab...
